Emily + Brett | Oak Creek Canyon Sedona Elopement
Hello friends!
It is now July, and just like the rest of you, I have spent the past few months in lockdown due to the COVID-19 pandemic. And what a crazy few months it has been, right? I know how difficult this season has been for so many people in so many ways.
For me, it was so strange to find myself with an empty calendar in the middle of what is normally the busiest time of year for me. It kind of felt like the entire wedding industry just screeched to a halt, and I was SO heartbroken for all of my brides who had spent so much time and effort into planning their special days, only to have everything cancelled. However, something amazing started to happen as quarantine progressed. Some of my resilient, strong, amazing couples who cancelled their weddings pivoted to planning cozy, intimate, socially distant elopements instead.
And today, I’m going to tell you about one of those couples -- Emily & Brett.
Emily and Brett met at Iowa State University at the beginning of their time there, but didn’t realize the chemistry that existed between them until their senior year. They began spending a lot of time together and eventually ended up spending almost every waking moment together. When they started discussing their post-graduation plans, they were both shocked and excited to realize that they were both heading to Omaha, Nebraska. And six short years later, here they are!
Brett proposed in Key West, Florida, after a wrong turn and a quick detour (it’s not a proper engagement story without an unforeseen obstacle, right?). They climbed the half-demolished Bahia Honda bridge, and after Emily had taken a few pictures, she found Brett on one knee asking her to spend the rest of her life with him. They were originally going to get married on a beach, but due to COVID-19, they decided to opt for Sedona instead (not a bad consolation prize). Family members served as the wedding party and the officiant, and the ceremony was so stunningly beautiful and wonderfully intimate.
When I asked Emily if she had advice for other brides planning their weddings, she said “Plan early, be flexible with unexpected changes, and remember who the day is about!” All three of those things are things Emily and Brett did an amazing job at, and their wedding was so incredible as a result. Thank you guys for allowing me to witness your beautiful and perfect day. I have no doubt that you guys will be able to weather any storm that you guys face, and that you will build an incredible life together, even with it starting in the time of COVID! Congratulations!
